Rhymefest tells the story of a b-boy anthem he did with Just Blaze at Baseline. After hours of tweaking his flow, he couldn’t figure out how to best approach the track. It even made him question himself as a rapper. When he returned to Chicago, he came up with the idea of bringing a b-boy crew into the studio while recording. It worked, the pressure was gone and he was able to finish the song. He later performed it to a rocking crowd at Lollapalooza and saw everything he had envisioned for the song.

“I have to admit, you know, a few years ago, I wouldn’t have admitted this — or maybe I wouldn’t have been conscious of it in a way to admit or be embarrassed — but in my earlier years from when I first left home, I was embarrassed from being from the South. Not in general, but as a rapper because all of the negative things that people in the States put on the South. Like, “The South, they’re slow. They move slow, they think slow, they’re less intelligent. They’re less exposed, they’re underexposed, they’re more sheltered.”

So as a rapper — I’ve been rapping since I was 10 years old — I always had a feeling of ‘I’m gonna show you’ because we down here doing it. Not that I was embarrassed necessarily — I don’t know if that’s the correct word — but I know that when I left home, if someone had heard my accent and heard where I was from, the door was immediately closed.”

Electronica said he had to adapt and become a chameleon on the mic. While trying to break into the music industry, he moved between different cities such as New York, Atlanta and Chicago.

“I kind of stiff-armed my roots for a couple of years,” the Brooklyn transplant continued of his journey. “Then my sister told me one day, ‘You know, you act like you’re ashamed of being from home.’ It was like a reality check. I checked myself. I mean, this is years ago, but now I’m at a place where I understand where I’m from. I understand my culture and I’m more proud to be from there than associate with somewhere else.”

Despite trying to hide his roots early on, Jay thinks back to the early days of New Orleans hip-hop with a smile.

“I’m from New Orleans and there’s a certain type of music,” he explained. “I come from a bounce culture — bounce music. You been to New Orleans a couple times, you probably heard of the bounce music. It’s a part of me; I grew up with bounce music. It’s call-and-response, it’s trance, it’s tribal, it’s communal, it’s African, it’s based in Africa … the energy of it.”

People have been saying this was the case for a while now, but it’s officially official…Forbes magazine has named Mexican telecommunications and everything else mogul Carlos “Slim” Helu the “World’s Richest Man”.  According to the mag:

For the third time in three years, the world has a new richest man.  Riding surging prices of his various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil, Mexican tycoon Carlo Slim Helu has beaten out Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth and nab the top spot on the 2010 Forbes list of the World’s Billionaires.

Slim’s fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months. Shares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up 35% in a year.  That massive hoard of scratch puts him ahead of Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates, who had held the title of world’s richest 14 of the past 15 years.  Gates, now worth $53 billion, is ranked second in the world. He is up $13 billion from a year ago as shares of Microsoft rose 50% in 12 months.

Chicago producer Maja 7th gets with FakeShoreDrive to put out this project. Says Maja 7th:

Andrew and I stated working on this album around the 4th quarter of last year. I told him I had some beats I wasn’t using and I wanted to put out an album with predominantly Chicago artists. I had done some work with Killah Priest and some Wu-Affiliates and had been traveling around doing beat battles but I wanted to do something big for the city of Chicago. So we started making phone calls and people showed love. This album is about unity and showing these artists’ talents. It was my job to fuse those talents into a cohesive album. The goal wasn’t to make singles or club records. I just made music that felt right to me.

A police source said the cop, who was in street clothes, was barraged with snowballs and taunts and chased down the street “in a threatening manner.”

The Bronx district attorney has no plans to drop charges against the four friends, three of whom have prior arrests for minor incidents.  “You would think that the NYPD would focus on real crimes and not on young men playing in the snow during a nor’easter,” said lawyer Neil Wollerstein.  He’s planning to hit the city with a $10 million false arrest and malicious prosecution suit on behalf of the four and a 15-year-old pal who was arrested but had the charges dropped in Family Court.

Good publicity stunt?  The owner of the Klee Brasserie in NYC found himself with some extra milk left over after his wife had her baby girl so now he’s serving it as cheese – with maple caramelized pumpkin and Concord grapes.  Chef Daniel Angerer talked about his inspiration on his blog:

“I came about mother’s milk when our daughter celebrated her 4th week birthday — my spouse is feeding our baby with breast milk. We are fortunate to have plenty of pumped mommy’s milk on hand and we even freeze a good amount of it – my spouse actually thinks of donating some to an infant milk bank which could help little babies in Haiti and such but for the meantime (the milk bank requires check-ups which takes a little while) our small freezer ran out of space.  To throw it out would be like wasting gold.”

“How much they want for this place?”

Jay-Z has withdrawn his participation from the Aqueduct Entertainment Group [AEG] which he had invested about 2% in, [estimated to be about $2 million dollars] through Gain Global Investments Network, to develop New York’s Aqueduct racino.  Rumor is Jay-Z and others jumped off the sinking ship as feds begin to investigate troubled NY Governor David Patterson for giving the contract to AEG in exchange for political support from the company’s investors.  Isn’t that what they all do?

Nice to see Jay-Z is actively playing with that money, it’s not getting dusty!!!
